Open Deploy Service Down
sanandal
Hi
For the last few days, our open deploy service is going down automatically. I could not find any errors in the odbase.log. We are currently using Open Deploy 5.5.1 in Windows 2000 environment. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I believe there is a patch for this. When I first filed a support case on this with Interwoven they said something about using odstart.ipl instead of odstart.bat, or reverting to a previous version of the .bat file or something. I didn't like the options. I just put code in the deployment process to restart the service if it was not running, which seemed to work.

John, The problem you are referring to has to do with launching iwodstart from a workflow, which caused the CLT to crash (not the OD server). There's a fix coming in TeamSite for that.
Sanandal, It's hard to say what's causing your server to go down without more info. However, I know that Tech Support has been tracking such issues and has some recommendations depending upon the cause. For example, the JRE on Windows has a memory leak; there's a procedure for swapping in a newer JRE to alleviate that problem.
Or, you might consider upgrading to OD 5.6 to see if it runs more reliably. Some of the issues (like the JRE problem) are addressed.

Todd,
We have this same problem using OD 5.5.1 with the latest patches. Do you suggest I open a case for this? We don't plan an OD 5.6 upgrade until June/July.
Let me know.
Thanks

Sebouh,
If the problem you're experiencing is the Java crash when workflow launches iwodstart, then I believe TeamSite 5.5.2 SP3 is supposed to correct that (regardless of whether you have OD 5.5.1 or 5.6.)
If you have OD 5.5.1 on Windows and are experiencing the JRE memory leak problem, there's a procedure for swapping in a newer JRE. (I believe this was detailed in an earlier thread, or check with Tech Support on that.)
If you need to pick up other fixes that may be available in OD 5.6, you might be able to get away with upgrading the sender (base server) only and not the target receivers. But that depends on which fixes you are needing.
