Editing DCRs via email
mogoo
OK, just wondering if anyone has done something like this...
We have a classified ads type page. On it, there is a form people fill out when they want to add a post. The form info they fill out gets emailed to our web group, who then input it into a DCR.
It would be nice to automate this process, so the DCR gets filled out based on a script reading the form... anybody got any insight/tips?
Thanks,
maureen

Have your webteam send/copy/move the the results of the webform to a TS workarea. As long as it is in some sort of delimited format you could slap a perl script together that could...
1.) Parse it
2.) Format it into a DCR/XML based on your CAT/TYPE config
3.) Stick in the proper folder
4.) Slap some extended attributes on it use the CLT.
5.) ...and other stuff
This process could possibly be handled through a WF or a script set up in CRON looking for files in that WA.

Sounds good... to send/copy/move the results to a workarea... is it possible to call on an .ipl in local/bin on the teamsite server, or would I have to use a .cgi? Does it matter, are there any implications of doing either? (security or otherwise).
Thanks for the input!

The form the users enter the content in will likely be a CGI, since you want a nice front end. That could also be an ipl. After the user sends, you do not need CGI.
The implication of no CGI is that error notification is more difficult. If a CGI goes all the way through, then the end user would see any errors generated. If an IPL picks it up, you will need to send STDERR to someone if there is a problem.
This should be pretty easy

While I don't really know much about this particular product of ours, it *sounds* like it might be the way to go... TeamPortal and/or Content Services SDK. I believe they allow you to contruct production-web interfaces to TeamSite such that a user on your web site could essentially kick off a workflow process (regardless of whether they know anything about TeamSite).
Again - this is not my area of expertise - but you might want to look into it and see if this fits your requirements.
