DataDeploy with text editor created dcrs

Hi,
I'm trying to use DataDeploy and DAS to update a DB with non-UI created DCRs. I found this thread in the Templating forum:

which obviously sorts out fixing the EAs for file based DCRs, but I'm wondering what the next step would be. At the moment, until I select the newly (text editor) created dcr and edit it in the GUI, it doesn't show up in the database. I'm guessing that when a file is selected to be edited, some events are fired off, and DataDeploy is picking up on one of those events and triggering a new entry in the DB.
Does anyone know what the process is, and if i can mimic that? Does DataDeploy have an API? Would the command-line tools be any help? (maybe iwsyncdb.ipl)

Any help would be great.

DAS deployments can be triggered via several mechanisms:

+ From a TeamSite iwat trigger script
+ By subscribing to events through the TeamSite Event Subsystem
+ Using the iwexecdascmd command line tool

The DataDeploy 5.6 Admin Guide (April 2003 edition) goes into considerable detail on DAS and DAS events.

can't use iwat, because there is no event triggered when files are moved into the Y: drive through explorer.
I ended up using iwexecdascmd, after struggling with creating a config file for deployment. Supplying the DAS one on the command line doesn't work - it expects more parameters (basetableprefix, filelist etc).
I'm just going to call the fix EA script and iwexecdascmd as a File menu item in the UI.

One way you could mimic a Create Dcr event is by running the following perl command after you create the DCR
iwsyncdb.ipl "[Wed Mar 1 00:06:51 2000]" userjoe master SyncModify /default/main/TBranch/WORKAREA/w1 /**** FILE
Make sure you set the EA on the DCR file.

So, I got everything working well. We have a batch file that is called from a menu item in the TS gui.
This batch file does a bunch of things (manually creates dcrs and directories in the data folder) then fixes the EAs on those files.
Then it runs this command:
d:\datadeploy\bin\iwexecdascmd cfg=Y:\default\main\www\NGIPCat\WORKAREA\development\templatedata\NGIP\cat_inc\cat_inc_standalone.cfg deployment=deltaupdate

When the deltaupdate deployment had set to visit-directory set to "shallow", DD would run and insert one row into the relevant DB tables. This was fine, as there is only one dcr in the root of the data folder, and it shows that the whole process is working. When visit-directory is changed to "deep" datadeploy would fail with a:

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
<<no stack trace available>>

error in iwddd.log
I think the root of the problem may be the fact that there are 1599 new DCRs in the data directory.
Has anyone tried to DataDeploy this many fresh DCRs at once? It seems that iwexecdascmd is the most efficient way to do this, as it uses the datadeploy daemon rather than spawning new processes.
Am I just pushing the limits of DataDEploy?

You need to increase HeapSize for Java. On NT you would need to specify attribute vmoptions=-Xmx256m in ddhome/conf/iwsyncdb.cfg (setvalue of heapsize based on your machine configuration), in case of solaris you can run iwsyncdb.ipl -starddd -Xmx...
