Whenever I try to use iwstoreadm to activate a store I created (via iwmigrate of a branch from another store), I get error message as follows:

\iw-home\bin>iwstoreadm -a d:\new-iwstore
Unable to activate store: Illegal name given

How do you get the 'legal' name of a backing store?

Check page 64 pf the clt manual. Looks like a documenation bug (possibliy)

The example shown has more that the 2 paramters:

%iwstoreadm -a /usr/tmp/store1 Store1 "Test store for demo"
Note that the comment must be in quotes if it contains spaces.
The store1 directory and Store1 backing store are created. The system confirms that the
newly created backing store is activated.

Now I'm getting

Unable to activate store: I/O error

when I try to activate a backing store I've restored from tape. The backup was made via Veritas NetBackup, with an IWFreeze on the source backing store.

What could the i/o error indicate? Is there any other way to tell whether the restored backing store is complete and useable?

What is the location of your backingstore? You can only have one backingstore location. You can check by running iwgetstore and your new-store should be within that directory.

The last response in the chain (before yours) put me onto what seemed to be a solution: I put any backing store I have under d:\iw-store (like d:\iw-store\alt_store), and the store_directory entry in iw.cfg points to the store there.
