Workflow Variable

I've a workflow which makes extensive use of workflow variables. However one variable looks like it is being truncated. Is their a maximum length a workflow variable can be? If so does any one have any work arounds ?

if anyones interested.........

4k is the max length. (4096 chars)

it looks like you can have as many variables as you like so i've just ended up chaining variables together.

does anyone have a more elegant solution ?
