Invalid Workflow

aces

Everytime a user submit a workflow, he would get an "Invalid Workflow: not well-formed at line 75 ERROR:0001: Failure in operation" In the template, one of the field is title which is "Health & Safety". I debug the code and found out that perl didn't like the "&" sign in the title.

This is the line that is causing the error:
__INSERT__("<command v='$iwperl $iwsend $action,reject,$approvalManager,__TAG__(iw_user);,$parentInfo,$labelName,$siteName,$desc,ContentContributorEdit,__TAG__(iw_user);'/>");

Title is the variable $siteName.
How do I escape the "&" sign in Perl so it would not cause an error.

It s not perl it is XML.

If you use the __TAG__ instead of __INSERT__ it will take the proper sequence. It is a pain because INSERT & TAG behave differently.

Now you could change $ to & (which is the escaped & in XML & you should be OK).

Thanks.
So you are suggesting:
__TAG__("<command v='$iwperl $iwsend $action,reject,$approvalManager,__TAG__(iw_user);,$parentInfo,$labelName,&siteName,$desc,ContentContributorEdit,__TAG__(iw_user);'/>");

What the different between INSERT & TAG?

nipper

Dont know if you can replace teh INSERT with TAG. but if you replcae the & with & that MAY work.

TAG is basically INSERT that cleanses the XML. So it replaces special characters with the escaped equivalent.

Also TAG does behave a little differently than INSERT, as you see the syntax is INSERT ($variable) but TAG (variable)

I don't see 'title' within your command - so I'll assume its inside $labelName, $siteName, or $desc that you are running into the problem.

How were those values defined? were they TAG_Info() variables that you stuffed into Perl variables? or were they defined some other way?

If they were TAG_info() variables, then what the nipper suggested: use the __TAG__() directive for them in your command - would probably work:

<command v="__INSERT__($iwperl $iwsend ... __TAG__(iw_desc) ...);"/>

Alternatively - in your template_script section - you could do something like:

use TeamSite::CGI_lite;
my $desc = TeamSite::CGI_lite::escape_form_data(__VALUE__(iw_desc));
and then you shouldn't have to worry about any '&' sign within the value of the description.

The above is based only on a loose understanding of where these values came from and which one contains the offending character(s).

$siteName is defined like this:
my $siteName = $pDCR->value('GeneralInfo.SiteName');
It grabs the value from the template.
So I should set $siteName to the value first then convert it with the escape as you suggested.
i.e.

my $siteName = $pDCR->value('GeneralInfo.SiteName');
my $siteName = TeamSite::CGI_lite::escape_form_data(__VALUE__(siteName));

Thanks.

If that's the case - you don't need the __VALUE__ piece - just:

my $siteName = $pDCR->value('GeneralInfo.SiteName');
my $siteName = TeamSite::CGI_lite::escape_form_data($siteName);

or

my $siteName = TeamSite::CGI_lite::escape_form_data($pDCR->value('GeneralInfo.SiteName'));

__VALUE__() is used to interact with workflow instantiation form variables - and that's not what you're dealing with here.

Thanks for the reply.
I tried using this:
my($labelName) = __VALUE__('iw_labelName');
my $labelName = TeamSite::CGI_lite::escape_form_data($labelName);

and got this as the output "test%20%26%20test" when I entered "test & test"
Seem like it replace & with %20.
How do I fix this?

Adam Stoller

I think you want escape_html_data() not escape_form_data() - try that and see if it helps.

No, that didn't work.
I'm getting 'amp' is not recognied as an internal or external command. It is still using & which contains an &

In your original posting '&' was replaced with %26 not %20.

More to the point though - where are you using this variable/value? and what are you trying to make happen (or not happen)?

Everytime I run this command:

<externaltask name='SendEmail_jqtan'
owner="pwdomain\wcm"
description='Email Reviewer of Request'>

<areavpath v='/default/main/Intranet/WORKAREA/shared'/>
<successors>
<successorset description='Send Email to Reviewer'>
<succ v='CMReview_jqtan'/>
</successorset>
</successors>
<command v='D:\iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl.exe

\iw-home/custom/bin/scripts/iwsend_servlet_mail.ipl new,createSite,jqtan,pwdomain\jqtan,Employee--Resources\Employee--Programs,test--\&--test,test22222,,CMReview_jqtan,jqtan,jqtan,'/>
<activation>
<or>
<pred v='StartWorkflow'/>
</or>
</activation>
</externaltask>
it does not recognized the & object. Is there a way I can replace & without having & in the command like. I tried \&, & and it doesn't works.

Adam Stoller

The problem is that you're trying to force an '&' within parsed XML, and then have it passed through what is most likely some form a shell (having not used that email script I'm not sure exactly where the problem lies) and hope to have the '&' not interpreted by the shell.

What is 'test--&--test' ? Is it a filename? a text label? Is it something that you can rename so that it doesn't have an '&' in it?
Alternatively, you could probably make a variant of the email script and pass in something like __AND__ within the wft to the script and have the script translate it to & before using it for whatever purpose it is intended.

"test--&--test' is a title name. We need the name through out the workflow. I tried different ways, but seem like none of them are working. Any other ideas?

nipper

The only way out of this that I know of is to code it into the Perl. Your XML is not valid since you have a floating &, changin it to & will likely trash your script (though you can try it).

What you may need to do is run:

iwperl redirect.ipl
which runs the perlscript WITH the & sign

Where do I run iwperl redirect.ipl?

In your <command:

<command v='D:\iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl.exe redirect.ipl,'/>

redirect.ipl runs:
