Preprocessor

I'm trying to set the value of the title on an html page using a preprocessor. The problem is that the title of page is in a span tag(<span class="pagetitle">). I can't compile the preprocessor, because to the double quotes. I was wondering if there is way to represent double quotes in the state machine? Any help would be appreciated.
