AUTHOR -Write Lock
jerm
Does anyone know what an Author needs to do to make sure once they are finished editing a DCR, that their DCR becomes UNLOCKED?

A) Submit the DCR specifically
or
Submit the generated file via a WF that attaches the DCR to the WF file list.
OOTB submitting the generated file will not unlock the DCR.

Did you approve the changes ? GO to the todo list & look at all jobs.
If so, there may be a conflict, select the file and do a File -> Properties from webdesk or webdesk pro)

OH, right, Authors can only submit via a wf. So, as andy states, it is being worked through a wf, whatever your default is.

Thanks for all the suggestions.. you have to forgive me, I am still new to TeamSite.
So, is the only way for a DCR to be unlocked by the Author is for it to be Submitted through a WorkFlow?
Also, the To Do list wasn't used in this case..
Thanks again for any input..

IIRC, Authors can unlock a file in their WA, but it may only be available on the WebDeskPro, not webdesk.
Of course, when you ask about unlocking, do you mean, I am finished & I want this to go to Staging or Oh s**t, I did not mean to do that.
You can make a custom menu item (if that is working now for Webdesk) to unlock.

We should probably take a step back and try to get a little more information...
so you have a user that is assigned the role "Author", correct?
When the user logs in, do they select the checkbox for "web desk"
What we are refering to has to do with the explicit functions of the Author role. The idea is this is a person that can write content and submit it to an editor for approval, and that's about it. That is why I said it needs to be routed through a WF.
Editors and higher have the option in the edit menu to "unlock" a file. This feature is restricted from the author. (at least out of the box).
When an editor or higher submits a file, it is automatically unlocked (unless the keep locks flag is set).
If you don't see anything in your in box, you may want to do some investigting to see what the default WF is, and how it is being routed.
Does this help?

FYI - the 'Unlock' menu option is available for Authors (to unlock files that they themselves have locked) in the WebDesk interface - *noth* the WebDeskPro interface.

Note: unlocking files on submit (at least through workflows) is *an option* - if you look at the specification for the submittask in the wft, see if it has the attribute unlock="t" specified. If not, then files will not be unlocked automatically after submit (which is the default behavior from before the 'unlock' attribute was added)
