my $x = length(iwpt_dcr_value('dcr.replicant.field'));

?

If what you're trying to get is how many children a replicant has you can use:

my $numpages = iwpt_dcr_list('dcr.Replicant Name');

Which in a scalar context (shown) will return an integer indicating the number of items in that array.
