Setting input box size with templates

I'm trying to set the size of an input box on a metadata capture form. In the deployconfig.cfg file when I enter size="80" to get an input box which is 80 pixels wide I get an error from teamsite. At the moment I've got a temp solution by just using a textarea and having row="1" and cols="80" but this puts a scroll bar at the bottom of the box which is ugly. Does the script which generates the set metadata field info actually support the size attribute for input boxes or are am I doing something wrong?
