VisualFormat prblem - again!
khan
My colleague tells me she thought she had seen a post about this already, but we can't seem to find it again. Anyhow, a content provider who's been able to create new vf dcr's all this time is now all of a sudden getting an ewebeditpro error saying that he's got an invalid license. So far, this has only happened to him. How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help,
~kathie

I remember there being a detailed post on this (may even have been from me). Anyway, we have had the same problem in the past.
This is the Interwoven and Extron integration documentation:
http://www.ektron.com/software/released/ewebeditpro/v25/integrationiw.pdf
Is this the error message?

That wasn't the exact error he got, but I'm not sure if it means the same thing. When he first tried to open the dcr for edit, he got a dialog box that said, "The XML data is not loaded." Then, after he clicked the okay button, he got an About ewebeditPro dialog box that said, "A license is required for host: our server" and "INVALID LICENSE" in red.

Some of that is covered in the first manual. I guess what is strange, is you said it is just this one user. So, other users are able to use the same DCT with the VFE? Is this user hitting the SAME exact URL? The lisence key is based on the domain. So it would work if everyone is hitting
http://your-domain.com/iw
, but if this user is hitting, say the IP address, or a fully qualified address, it may not work. The lisence is just a text file. Take a look at the domain in there.
Hope this helps

Yes, it is just this one user, and he is following the exact same url as I am. Still, it doesn't work. I've also had him try unistalling and reinstalling vf. During reinstallation, he gets these two exact same errors, and so vf is not installed at all.

when you try to install, are you doing from the server, or did you download the exe? There are some pretty specific browser security settings.
Have you looked at the license? and the suggestions from the ektron site?

Downloading from the server, and we've resolved the security settings issues with the browser.
You mentioned taking a look at the license. Where is this located?

Resolution
The Evaluation message is easily removed by clicking the OK button. The eWebEditPro editor will continue to function normally even after 30 days.
To prevent the Evaluation message from appearing, try the following ideas.
For Internet Explorer:
Ensure the ewebeditpro.lpk file is not corrupt and is accessible. It must be in the server directory where eWebEditPro was installed (e.g., /ewebeditpro2/).
Ensure the eWebEditProPath variable in the ewebeditpro.js file is relative to the host. It cannot include the protocol (e.g., http
or the domain (e.g.,
www.domain.com
).
Ensure a firewall does not block LPK files.
Ensure the server permits .lpk file extensions. One way to ensure this is to type the URL to the ewebeditpro.lpk in the browser's address bar.
Ensure the server does not append any information to the end of the LPK file.
If you are seeing this error message, running the ewebeditproclient.exe installation program should prevent the evaluation message from appearing. It is in the /ewebeditpro2/clientinstall/ directory.
Since the client installation program is required for Netscape, the Evaluation message should never appear when using Netscape.
If an evaluation message appears when you switch from eWebEditPro 2 to 3 or eWebEditPro 3 to 2, close and reopen Internet Explorer or clear the cache memory.

my approach is -- not to use Ektron at all...
I wrote a callout that does it all with minimum footprint (15K or so), it does not even need an install....

We're in the process of upgrading from 5.0.2 to 5.5.2 (on W2K). Clients running W2K with IE 5.5 SP2
In order to do testing on the 5.5.2 dev server, the old version of VisualFormat was uninstalled and the new version installed directly from the exe on one of our client systems. It is getting the same exact error described in this thread: "he got a dialog box that said, "The XML data is not loaded." Then, after he clicked the okay button, he got an About ewebeditPro dialog box that said, "A license is required for host: our server" and "INVALID LICENSE" in red."
We're having this problem on just one of our clients, while the others that we have upgraded are fine. Has anyone found a resolution for this issue that is proven to fix the problem and/or do you know what is causing this problem to begin with?
Thanks!
khan
For you, even though it says "INVALID LICENSE," it gives a valid license number, correct? That's what happened for us.
Anyhow, I opened a case with IW support and all, but nothing ever came of it. We even tried completely uninstalling vf and unregistering it from the registry. I also emailed the Ektron support people, and they came back with the possibility that the "Microsoft XML parser might be corrupted." What we finally did was had the user's computer reimaged, and then it worked fine after that. The user has IE 5.5 SP2 as well, on Win2K, and we have TS 552. So, I have no idea what exactly the problem was.

Could you please try the following URL on the client machine that shows the license problem?
http://servername/iw/ewebeditpro20/test.htm
Do you still get the license problem?

Yes it sounds like the MS XML Parser is corrupt on that machine.
Please install the MS XML Parser on that client machine that is having that problem.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&familyid=E26B719C-7AD0-4EC0-97FA-412E458058D0#filelist
Select
msxml3sp1.EXE
654 KB
After that I would like you to uninstall the VFE by going to
http://<server>/iw/ewebeditpro20/clientinstall/visualformatclient.exe
to download it to the local machine
then
open up that file and select remove - to completely remove the client piece.
then reboot
and after the machine comes back up can you again run visualformatclient.exe and install the VisualFormat Editor
now go to this page
http://<server>/iw/ewebeidptro20/test.htm
and let me know if it works

When I go to the
http://servername/iw/ewebeditpro20/test.htm
pages for either 5.0.2 or 5.5.2, I see no mention of the license issue or the XML data not loaded error. When I try out the different functionality in the test page it works as expected.

SO did the MS XML parser make a difference. Besides the test.htm page does the VisualFormat editor work now in DCTs? Or do you still get an XML load error?
