compare to staging
vinylrecord
hi everyone
i am an author...
i want to simply compare my files with the staging area at any point of time or for range of dates.
say i want see all the changes done to any file in my workarea from 24th apr '03 to 29th apr '03.
If i login as a master i see a button on the toolbar which says compare and it allows me to compare my files with staging. but i need similar functionality for an author.
i will give u a brief background what i want to do :
i have a group of authors working in an workarea. now an author coming after break, wants to see what’s changed (compare to staging). a list of all modified files with detail of each modification done is to be shown. (not the last one only)
ASAP reply would be apreciated

Unfortunately, at least in the current versions of TeamSite (I do not know if this is going to change) - Author's do not have access to the staging area - and thus cannot perform a comparison against staging.
You might be able to do this with a custom menu item (can't remember if they always run 'as' the user logged in) - or you could do it with a workflow that runs an externaltask owned by someone in a role higher than an Author, which generates a comparison list (using one of the CLTs provided) and the followed by a cgitask (owned by the author) that renders that information for the user to see what has changed. If you want to provide the ability to do selective diffs or get latests - it gets more complicated but you essentially have to follow the same guidelines: all interactions with staging need to be proxied (not iwproxy) by someone who occupies a role higher than author.
