showing comments from only usertasks
aliceharris
Our workflows contain several external tasks after each author or review task (e.g., to validate HTML, regenerate pages, etc). Each of these external tasks creates comments that appear in the job details along with the comments entered by authors and reviewers. This means that by the time a job reaches an author or reviewer, the comments from the previous human are buried beneath several comments from external tasks. We want to keep the comments from external tasks because they're useful for admin users, but we don't want our non-technical users to see them (or at least we want to make it easy for the users to find the previous reviewer/author comments). We want to do this either in the notification emails that are sent to the authors/reviewers when a task is assigned to them (the emails currently list the comments from all previous tasks) or when the users view the Job Details in the TeamSite GUI, or in both places.
I've looked at the script that sends the notification emails (iwsend_mail_va.ipl) and it will be easy to modify it to show only usertasks and/or to bold the comments from usertasks, however we can't be the only organisation that's wanted to do this. Does Interwoven already supply configuration options or code that will highlight usertask comments or hide details of external tasks? Or has anyone out there written anything like this themselves?

As you said, you can see where to modify the code for iwsend_mail.ipl to do this - well, make a copy of iwsend_mail.ipl and use it.

Ah. I obviously didn't make myself clear.
I'll do that if I need to, but I'd prefer to use an existing solution if there is one to avoid duplication of effort and production of non-standard code.

iwsend_mail.ipl was written to be configurable, but not that configurable. You might be able to do what you're looking for with the iwsolution_mail.ipl script - but it will still require local customization to make it work the way you want.
There is nothing OOTB that will do what you are looking for - what's supplied OOTB are the tools to let you do what you want with relative ease.
