Non Approval Workflow
nshetty
Hello,
We want to create a workflow that doesn't have any approvals from any roles. Do we need to have all the tasks as external tasks.
How do we approach ? Please recommend.

what do you want it to do ?
The approvers are non-TS users ?
We do something similar but they view the content out of TS and give an unofficial Y/N
The owner then cancels.

Im not exactly sure what you say makes sense. Well atleast to me, so its probably just me!
Maybe you could try asking your question another way.
If you are after a workflow that doesnt have any approval, then I guess it means you dont need any user or group tasks.
What is it that you want your workflow to do?.. Thats the first thing you need to ask.
For example if all you need is to submit the content then deploy it, well you'll need to create an external task after the submit task for the deployment script.
You could probably start by using the default submit workflow.

ok..this is what we want to accomplish. Create a workflow that will submit the DCRs which further get deployed without any approvals. Users may or may not be TS users.
please let me know if its not clear yet. Thanks for your help

The submit & deploy part is trivial.
You mention that the users may not be TS users, what users ? The ones makgin the change have to be, the people who see the changes do not.

I think it has be a TS user because the user will log on to TS, create a new record and submit the record and then its gets deployed to production server with no approval steps.

then this is a trivial workflow. You could do it without training and even with workflowbuilder. (I will get knocked down a notch for suggesting WFB, but in ths case it will work).
just a couple steps, an external step (perl script) that verifies generated content and DCRs are together in the job, submit task, then external task to do a file list deploy.
very easy.

I greatly appreciate your help. I don't want to use WFB for any workflows. Could we make modification author_submit workflow for that. Being new to IW
Thanks

Don't modify author_submit - create a copy and modify the copy (preferably in a different directory than default/ or examples/ or solutions/ since those are product-shipped workflows.

And, you probably want to start with default_submit, not author_submit. Default_submit doesn't have any approvals in it, so you should just be able to expand from there.
Of course, fish's suggestion to make a copy still holds true.

Sorry, I cannot provide any answer to the original question. However, I'm wondering what might be the easiest way to provide external (non-TS) users with a preview page. How have you implemented this?

That one is easy
point them to:
http://server:81/iw-mount/default/main/..../
(or some variation of that. Port 81 is the default port for Apache/IIS when TS installs.
The directories are surfable (usually) so get to the main dir,
work your way down, & save the URL

That will only work if you havent configured your proxy to slice and dice your website from different locations/branchs etc.
I remember a similar post, dont you nipper?
