Update timestamp

I have a need where I should be data deploying the update timestamp for each DCR - while data deploying the DCR contents. One obvious way is to have a hidden field in the DCT, use form API to update the value on load (to take care up updates). But is there any simpler mechanism to achieve this.

if you need the timestamp in database only,
you can use a databse trigger on insert or update.
