Field size of a readonly field

Hi everyone! I am trying to resize a field that I have made readonly. When the field is not readonly, I can set a maxsize="100" and get the size I want. However, when I put the readonly tags around the field, it seems as though the maxsize is ignored and the field size extends the entire width of the page. I am using TeamSite 6.0.

Has anyone else encountered this or know how to fix it?

I think if you use the setReadOnly formapi method to set the field to readonly after changing its size it might work.
I don't think the <readonly> tags can be used with the the various FormAPI methods for this.

The problem is that when an item on a DCT is readonly, it is no longer a text box, but just text. So the maxsize means nothing.

In response to Jeremy, the setReadOnly function results in the same thing, which also requires a IWDatacapture.redraw().

Do I have any options for resizing this? And if it is just text, why is the size dictated by the width of the page rather than by the length of the text?

It is dictated by the size of the td it is in. About your only option to format it to a specific size, would be to include html in the value for the field and control it that way. But then you'll have to deal with stripping out the garbage html either on save, in the tpl, or wherever it is you are using this value.

It is not in a td. It is not in an html file. It is declared in the datacapture.cfg. How do I control the size in this file?

What I meant was, TeamSite Templating displays all of the fields from the DCT within a table, and each of the label/values is within a td. The size of this td is what controls the size of the readonly text. In order to control the size of the readonly text yourself, you would need to include html tags within the value of the readonly field, as I stated above. This obviously is not a very clean solution and if you are not comfortable with it, just tell your client/manager that it is not possible to control the length/size of a readonly field.

Sorry... I misunderstood what you were saying. Do you think you can show me a quick example of putting html into the DCT? I am not familiar with doing this.

This will have to be done via FormAPI. So, you'll have a text field that you want to be readonly, on load, or at some other time of your choosing, you'll want to do something like this:

var myItem = IWDatacapture.getItem("/myFieldName");
myItem.setReadOnly(true);
myItem.setValue("<input type='text' size='100' disabled value='"+myItem.getValue()+"'/>");
IWDatacapture.redraw();

Then, when before you save the dcr (onSave), you'll want to do something like this:

var myItem = IWDatacapture.getItem("/myFieldName");
myItem.setReadOnly(false);
myItem.setValue(myItem.getValue().replace(/^<input type='text' size='100' disabled value='/, ""));
myItem.setValue(myItem.getValue().replace(/'\/>$/, ""));
IWDatacapture.redraw();

I just had the same problem.

Can I add to the discussion that I think it's pretty stupid of Iwov to give you the option to create a readonly field but not to be able to control the size of it? Can't be that hard.

Why didn't Iwov think of this the first time they create the readonly field?
Is this a feature request?
