send variable to template based email
kellyrmilligan
Is it possible to send a variable to this in a workflow? I need to send an email to someone who is not on teamsite, and have the user id for the email map in a variable, but am not sure how to send it. would it be something like:
<externaltask lock = "f" name = "EmailReviewer" owner = "__INSERT__($uReviewer);" retry = "t" start = "f" description = "Please Verify Changes to the Site">
__INSERT__("<areavpath v='$iw_area_vpath'/>");
<successors>
<successorset description = "EmailContributor">
<succ v = "EmailContributor"/>
</successorset>
</successors>
<command v = "/usr/iw-home/bin/iw_solution_email.ipl -t 'Approval'"/>
<variables>
<variable key="iw_mailheader_pt" value="reviewer_iwmailheader.tpl"/>
<variable key="iw_mailbody_pt" value="submit_review.tpl"/>
<variable key="reviewer" value="__INSERT__($uReviewer);"/>
</variables>
</externaltask>
if so, how can I reference this in the header file to be the to: address?

The e-mail PTs have access to the task XML (e.g., similar to the output from "iwgetwfobj [taskid]"), including task variables such as yours.

so in the header part of the pt, my call to get that value would be something like:
iw_value name="dcr.workflowinformation.task[0].variablename"
?
what is the best way to get a look at that task.xml file using iwgetwfobj?

If I had to guess, it'd be something like "dcr.workflowinformation.task[0].variables.variable[2]
@value"
.
If you set DEBUG in iw_solution_email.ipl, then the "DCR" that your PT gets will be preserved. It should be in IWHOME/tmp/task_output[taskid].xml. Then you can play with your PT and that DCR to debug your PT (using iwpt_compile.ipl).

that works perfectly, thanks.
