Timeout: Transit to which successor
GoldenState
Within a workflow, if one task has multiple successorsets with time out element set, after the task times out, which successor it will transit to? Is there a way to change manipulate the succssor?

The <timeout> element contains its own successor. Check the docs - this is one thing that's clearly shown in the documentation and the DTD.

Here is an example taken from a wft we have done. This is sometimes more helpful then trying to determine what is intended by the manual.
<externaltask name = "Example"
owner = "__TAG__('iw_user');"
description = "timeout example">
<areavpath v='some path'/>");
<successors>
<successorset description="Success">
<succ v="Next Task"/>
</successorset>
</successors>
<command v="example_command.ipl"/>
<timeout v="+000100">
<succ v="Timeout task"/>
</timeout>
<activation>
<or>
<pred v="previous task"/>
<pred v="Timeout task"/>
</or>
</activation>
</externaltask>
The time format is HHHHMM I believe. I have also seen documentation stating it can involve seconds as well. Not sure what your time requirmements are, but something in the seconds range could be done as well.

A few comments on your example:
If your acivation clause only contains an '
<or>
' - leave it out completely - it's not needed and only makes the WFT more difficult to maintain/modify over time.
The timeout format is
either
+HHHHMM
or
mmddyyyyHHMM
(
unfortunately US-centric - should have been yyyymmddHHMM
).
The place where
seconds
comes into play is with regard to
retrieiving
the timeout value of a given task, like from within an externaltask script.
I tend to look at the
iwwf.dtd
when I have questions about the ordering of the elements within the WFT code.
