Using DCTs across multiple branches

I tried to use one DCT that is stored in a branch across multiple sub-branches. To do this, I set up symbolic links in the sub-branches templatedata directories.

Trying to start the DCTs results in the following error message:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Only content files can be read

Is there a way how a DCT can be used across multiple sub-branches?

there is no direct way. However you coud, say, have a datacapture.cfg that will do inline callout (include), and nothing else. And keep that 'master' DCT in a separate branch, or evem somewhere ouside the backing store if you wish so.
