Search metadata externally

Hi,

What is the best way to search metadata from an external program(JAVA program)?
Are there some std API's available?
Should we deploy all metadata to a single table to simplify the search or to different tables (like teamsite does - creating a different table for each workarea)?

After searching i'll be using OpenAPI to fetch the content from Teamsite 5.5.2.

I'm not able to answer your first question about metadata search, but I do recommend you consider using ContentServices, as opposed to OpenAPI to programmatically communicate with TeamSite. There is information about CS here:

It is not TeamSite but rather DataDeploy. In DataDeploy you have a number of options - have your custom schema and also use a tuple pre-processor (that is a Java code BTW) to do whatever you want and massage the data in any way you want.

Only CS SDK 1.1 is compatible with TS 5.5.2 right not SDK2.0?

Can any external application make use of SDK1.1 bcoz it specifically only mentions portals and portlets?

Are you talking about metadata stored by TeamSite ? or our MetaTagger product ?
If it is TeamSite,, then you can please look at OpenAPI's IWVarScopeMixin interface. It is implemented by IWFile, IWTask, IWWorkflow and IWTrustee. Look at the javadocs for more details.
There is a small example in <iw-home>/iwopenapi/example/filesys0/IWFileSys1.java
