upgradeing teamsite4.5 to teamsite6.0
srvijayanandh
We have a requirement wherein we need to upgrade teamsite4.5 to teamsite6.0 version. I went through the support site. I believe currently upgrades to teamsite6.0 are available ONLY for version 5.5.2. If thats the case how can i go about upgrading from version4.5.?
Should i first upgrade to version5.5.2 and then to version6.0?
thanks in advance for your suggestions
Vijay

I believe you would indeed need to upgrade to 5.5.2 as this will convert the backing store into the correct format.
Once this is complete then you should be able to upgrade to 6.0.
Good luck.

Depending on *which* version of 4.5 you are on - you may have to apply a service pack to 4.5 first (I believe it needs to be SP2 but I might be wrong) - then upgrade/convert the backing store to 5.5.2, then apply SP 3, 4, or 5 to that, and *then* upgrade to 6.0 (and apply whatever patches and/or SPs are available by the time you get that far.
Alternatively, if you don't really care about any history in your existing backing store - create a tar-ball of all the content you want from all the branches, create a tar-ball of all your custom scripts and customized configurations, back up the backing store (just in case) and either wipe that machine, or get a new machine and install TS 6 on it from scratch - then create your branching and workarea structure in this brand-new backing store and roll-in your content and carefully go about re-creating all your customizations.
Personally, I think you're best off if you get your environment updated to 5.5.2 SP5 and make sure everything [all customizations] work and consider that a significant milestone, and then on a separate development server begin trying out all your customizations on TS6. As has been made rather apparent on a number of the forum postings, the UI (and many of the customization techniques) has changed drastically since 4.x/5.x - and although you could have everyone use the "old" WebDeskPro UI while in 6.0, it's probably more trouble than its worth at this point. Take advantage of the fact that 5.5.2SP5 is a supported platform and not too dissimilar from what you're currently using [from a user / customization perspective] and begin exploring TS 6 as a separate entity, outside the grasp of all your end-users, until you've had a chance to make sure all your customizations work in the new UIs.

I concur with fish, doing this in stages makes good sense, if you have the time.
Be sure you read all the material about the migration from 4.5.x to 5.5.2 SPx. There's lots of good material on the support site, checklists, planning guides, etc.

The administrative work to move from 5.5.2 SP x to 6.0 is relatively small, but to take advantage of the new UIs there is retraining of users, etc.
Good Luck

we studied migration 5.0 to 5.5 here for some time, before it all got turned around in an even bigger migration project, that means restarting the website brand new on 5.5.
We were going to use the tarball solution explained earlier. Just note also to use a script that extracts all your Extended Attributes, and can reset them on target system 5.5. (Because EA are not copied when doing file-copy or tar operation)
You'll find that in devnet's techlib somewhere.
You'll also have some issues if the users don't have the same uid on the 2 servers (assuming the new TS will come on a new server)... But that's documented in the migration docs from IWOV
