DataDeploy 5.6 versions
Mjit
Does anyone know what the difference versions of DataDeploy 5.6 are?
Currently the download area offers me DataDeploy 5.6SP1 and DataDeploy 5.6a but offers no explanation of what the differences are between them.
Anyone know?

You may want to look at the release notes on the support site for more information. There is almost always a 'what's new in this release' section. The manuals can be viewed without downloading the product at

Had already tried that, but wasn't much the wiser!
The bug numbers fixed in SP1 are generally higher than those in 5.6a, but not always - the lowest bug in SP1 is 27395, the highest in 5.6a is 35657 - Oh, and the BOTH fix bug 34973!
I can't see a straight 5.6 download, so is 5.6a a post 5.6, but pre-service pack 1 release, in which case why is 5.6a above 5.6SP1 in the list, when all over Teamsite software lists have the most recent release/SP at the top of the list and the oldedest at the bottom!

DataDeploy 5.6a should be the core DataDeploy software, and DataDeploy SP1 will be the Service Pack (patch) for the core product.
Not sure what the confusion is ?
I think bug numbers are assigned when bugs are filed (porbably in the order in which they are opened/filed). However the fixes in different releases may not be in the same order.

IWOV_Graduate has the bug numbering theory correct. The bugs are ordered sequentially when filed, not when fixed. The bigger the version number, the newer the software.
SPs always supercede each other for a main release, so 5.6 SP2 contains all the fixes for SP1, etc.

Here's the scoop on DD 5.6:
DD 5.6 was the original package released for Windows and Solaris.
DD 5.6a is a repackaging of DD 5.6 to fix an installer bug that could occur when TS 6.0 is on the same host as DD. Other than that, 5.6 and 5.6a are the same bits.
SP1 is the first (and only so far) service pack, which can be installed on top of 5.6 or 5.6a. Service packs tend to roll up all patches since the previous service pack, or in the case of SP1, since the product was released. But you should always read the SP release notes and fixed bugs list to be sure.
A "jumbo" patch was released recently, which includes bugs fixed after SP1. The patch numbers are 1406 and 1407 for Windows and Solaris, resp. Patches tend to be cumulative. So any patches that come out after 1406 and 1407 will include the fixes in those patches too. There's no harm in installing, say 1406, followed by a newer patch. But you could also just install the latest patch. This is a general rule for DD (and OD), but you should look at the patch README before installing to be sure.
Since I'm on the topic, there is planned a DD 5.6b, which is actually a port to AIX of DD. DD 5.6b will include all fixes already released on Windows and Solaris. In other words, DD 5.6b on AIX is equivalent to DD 5.6a + SP1 + jumbo patch on Windows and Solaris.
There will be a revised Release Notes for DD that accompanies the 5.6b release. This document will cover all supported platforms and therefore supersede the current release notes for DD 5.6.
I hope that helps.
