iw_perl problem

I have the following snippet:

which is breaking the iwgen process. I see the following error in the error.log:

/default/main/bom/WORKAREA/NewMember/templatedata/NewMember/G_NavBar_FSE_Theme_Two/presentation/G_NavBar_Menu1All_FSE.tpl: Could not process template: /.iwmnt/default/main/bom/WORKAREA/NewMember/templatedata/NewMember/G_NavBar_FSE_Theme_Two/presentation/G_NavBar_Menu1All_FSE.tpl

The old version of this code block worked fine and read:

What about the if/else block is breaking this TPL!? Thanks!!!

Has the variable $club been defined?

To debug, try running iw-home/bin/iwpt_compile.ipl from a command prompt.
