traversing "Backing store" filesystem
smg
Hi All,
One of the folder in our backing store (TS 5.5) file system has millions of records. We are using perl's opendir, readdir to get the list of files exist in a folder. But this takes more time to complete this operation. Is there anyother better way of getting the list of files of a folder? means by using some TS command instead of using perl's file operation or by reading some index file.
Other question is whether the performance will be improved by maintaining the files under subfolders instead of having millions of files under a single folder?
TIA
S. Muthu Ganesh

S. Muthu Ganesh,
If for no other reason, the TS GUI and filesystem interface would see improvement if you distributed the mass of files into folders (and subfolders). When you said millions of records, are you talking about those stored in the backing store, i.e., /iw-store? Or in the mount (virtual) drive of /iwmnt (unix) / Y: (windows)?
You might want to experiment with other unix commands, like ls or find, to see if they perform better. Also, try iwlist, though it doesn't do recursive lists.
