Backing Store Best Practices

My sites fall under one branch the default branch, thus I have the backing store set to be the default dir. We are running 552 on win2k and am looking at this "multistore" functionality.

Do I need to split my backing store into backing stores now?
like:
c:\iw-store\default\www\public
c:\iw-store\default\www\intranet
c:\iw-store\default\www\extranet

Instead of just
c:\iw-store\default

There is a good set of documentation about multi-store in the 5.5. conversion documentation available on the support site. You should be aware that multi-store is not free.
