item has no values!

I have a dct that I created from a dtd. I am saving the dcr as xml. When I click on the dcr to view it or edit it I get this error message, "Templating error page. An exception was thrown: TDCRXMLExtractor.PopulateSimpleInstace: item has no values! " Has anyone gotten this error before?
