Check DCRname Length on save

I want to check the length of DCR name which the user is entering. I want to abort save process with message, if name is greater than 20 Characters. I intend to Do it on_Save function. Is there a way I can check length of DCR name on save? Is it possible to do it?

Check out the onSaveNameSpecified event. Your handler for that event gets the name passed to it, and, returning false aborts the save. I think that's just the thing you're looking for. Documentation can be found at:

I did this
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSaveNameSpecified", CheckName);

function CheckName() {
var DCRname = IWDCRInfo.getDCRName ();

I think it will work fine if I am able to extract length of DCR correctly.

I am not able to extract the length. (Length is undefined so it always goes in else part)

Oh!! got the error.
I had written length.DCRname instead of DCRname.length

But still there is some problem. Length it returned is not correct.
Do I need to do something Like flush or refresh just before return(false).
If I give ertgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggc as name it gives me length is 7.
If I give this
ertgggggggg_ggggggggggg_ggggggggggggc
Gives length is 35
Now when I try saving again by saying
ertgggggggg_gg_ggc
still it give length is 35

Try changing your function to look like this:


function CheckName(DCRname) {
    alert("Length is " + DCRname.length );
    if (DCRname.length < 10) {
        alert("The filename less than 10..");
        return true;
    } else {
        alert("The filename chosen has length greater than 10...");
        return false;
    }
}

The parameter passed in to the handler is the name the user specified. When you use the getDCRName function, I *think* the name you would get would be the previous DCR name. The DCR's name isn't what the user specified until your handler returns true. Does that make sense?

This is exactly what is happening. It takes name of the previous DCR.
How can I change it to take the current one??
I used the function specified by you and then in call to CheckName function in form handler gave IWDCRInfo.getDCRName() as input parameter.

IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSaveNameSpecified", CheckName(IWDCRInfo.getDCRName()));

It does nothing. Shows no Alerts. !!
Am I specifying correct Input parameter?? Do I need to do anything else so that it takes the current Name?

My problem is solved now.
I should be using
IWEventRegistry.addFormHandler("onSaveNameSpecified", CheckName);

It automatically takes in current save path and name.
