Save location for DCR's
Fredrik
Hi,
by default, dcr's are saved in the templatedata/<category>/<type>/data folder. Within this folder I can create any sub folders.
However, I want to save my dcr's directly outside the templatedata structure, without having to generate a new copy of the file.
Is this possible? Do I need TS 6.0?
regards,
Fredrik Gillebo

I don't believe that TS6 will help you in this regard. To the best of my knowledge, DCRs **must** live within the templatedata/category/data-type/data/ directory. Generated files can live anywhere within TeamSite (actually, they can live outside of TeamSite too, but then they won't be treated as "generated")
WHY do you want to save your dcrs directly outside the templatedata structure?

I found this old post in my searches and wondered this has changed in recent years / versions?
I'm working with an application that needs a directory structure that supports saving DCRs of different types in the same folders. This allows the application to open these xml files without caring which TS category or type it's dealing with.
We're making this work with TPLs that copy the DCR xml to another directory which represents the directory structure we want and applying some extended attributes.
It just seems like there should be an easier way. You can set extended attributes on files outside of templatedata and have it pop open the proper DCT. Why can't you control where the DCR is saved?
Thanks!

IIRC, you can specify a directory other than templatedata, that is done with iw.cfg. However the category/type/data directories are fixed.
I think your approach is the best. Use a TPL to generate effectivley the same DCR in another directory. Templating will then apply the corret EAs for you.
