working through metaframe client: possible?
Frederik
Hi all,
for an ongoing project, we'll need to give employees of foreign divisions, access to our Teamsite server. One option to go with, is to give these folks access to our farm of MetaFrame terminal servers (Citrix). They'd be launching their "virtual desktop" (metaframe client), open a browser in there, and work on teamsite.
That will require installing Visual Formatting on the Metaframe servers, and maybe also the Templating Java client.
Does anyone know if / how that will work. Anyone having experience with that?
Alternatively, we would arrange our network in such a way that they have direct access to the server. There's bound to be some firewall in the way, that'll need tweaking though... (we're a bank... security... go figure!) and still they'd need to install client side software (with a variation of versions).

It will work through Citrix, but the performance is less than stellar and occasionally (at least in my experience) the entire Citrix session disappears.
Yes, you'd need to install VFE, and possibly some other client-side apps on the Citrix server.
You should not be installing the TST Java UI unless you really plan to use a discontinued / end-of-life'd / unsupported product.
The performance may or may not be a big issue - in terms of the alternatives you're looking at - since it isn't clear that, if they're "very remote" that being able to access the server through firewalls on a WAN connection is going to be that much better.

Hi all,
Does anyone have experience with using Teamsite Templating through Metaframe Terminal Server?
As described above, we installed Teamsite 5.5.2 sp4 Templating Client on our MF Terminal Servers.
We found out that the Java client is not multi-user compatible.
ERROR SCENARIO (users are on Metaframe Terminal Server)
User A has the Java Templating UI open (e.g. editing a DCR). User B (having selected the Java UI) wants to work in the Java client, e.g. to edit a DCR. What happens (as she selects the DCR and clicks "edit file") is that the DCR will open in the Java client window of user A. Nothing happens on the screen of user B. Same if user B selects "Create new DCR" or any other action that triggers Java Client activity.
All is fine if users use the browser UI Templating Client.
Has anyone experienced that? Solved that?
PS. Yes, we know TS 5.5 (and with it Java client) will be end of life soon (still June 2005, is it?), but changing to 6.x is not a short term option. Users prefer to use the Java client for some of our really large templates, which are real slow in the browser client UI.

5.5.2 goes end of life in June.
Java Templating UI - I believe - is already past end-of-life

It will be hard to troubleshoot the java templating client; it is past EOL. You may want to contact support.
I doubt your configuration is supported.
sorry.

Lissa,
just wondering, how come the Java client is past EOL? We got that installed as part of the TS 552 SP4. I believe 5.5x goes EOL in June 2005, so (1) how come that component of the app is already EOL when the rest of it is not? And (2) where was that announcement?

Here's an excerpt:
Java Templating and OpenChannel End of Life
January 9, 2003
Java Templating
Beginning with TeamSite Templating Service Pack 2, the Java Templating GUI and OpenChannel are discontinued.
Java Templating is being discontinued in favor of focusing feature enhancements and support on Interwoven's core browser-based Templating GUI. This will enable Interwoven to (a) provide higher quality versions of its core publishing client and (b) facilitate feature development by requiring a single platform for product enhancements.
