What is the recomdiation for file names in teamsite?

Currently we have users adding documents for download. It has/is causing some problems.

Some charecters are pound, single quote, comma (#,',,)
And other charters like Ò or á, or, è. are being used.

I want to tell them to use only the standard charteter set, but I know they will come back and say "Well we used them in the old website!"

Do I need to program for all these situations in my perl code. This doesnt work in perl
my $file = \\tèmp.txt";
if (-e $srch_file)

but this does
my $file = \\temp.txt";
if (-e $srch_file)

In general, the TeamSite file name restrictions "should" match those of the OS on which TeamSite is running. For example, on a Solaris installation you should be able to use any valid Solaris file name.

However, we have on occasion encountered bugs or problems related to character encodings or specific characters. These problems most often appear in seldom used parts of the UI, or in calls to CLTs. If you write your own CGIs or external task, you may even encounter problems within your own code.

If you limit your file names to ASCII letters, digits, period and underscore, then you will probably never have a problem. However, I would not recommend such a restriction on your file names unless you have some other technical reason to impose such a restriction, like a limitation in your web server.

If you do find a problem due to file name characters, please report it to Interwoven Support so that we can fix it for everyone.
