populating subscript in Drop down list

Hi all,

I am trying to populate a Drop down on the DCT, where in the options of the drop downs are obtained from a database.
the problem is that I want to use the subscript tags in the options tag, but they dont seem to work, I kno this is an HTML related query.

Can anyone guide me as to how to go about this.
I am having some chemical Names that I am retreiving from the DB so I need to display them as is. E.G. H2O so 2 shud be in subscript.
Is there any other workaround, if the subscript option in the options tag is not possible?

I don't believe HTML allows you to do any kind of text formatting in select list options.
You could use checkboxes or radio buttons with labels possibly - but the UI is significantly different.
I haven't tried it - but you *might* be able to create text images and use the <img> tag within a select list option (not sure it will work, not sure what the performance for rendering it will be like either)

I'll be interested to hear if anyone else has a way for doing this kind of thing as it sounds like it could come in handy sometime.
