limit to value-from-field on DD ?

nipper

We are deploying 1-N fields to a DB (choosing multiple selections from a scrolling list. From the DD manual, it shows:

<column name="Vector" data-type="varchar(40)"
value-from-field="Vector List/[0-5]/Vector" is-replicant="yes"/>

meaning that up to 6 can be placed in there. Currently we are going over our 500 limit.

Is there a syntax to make this unlimited ? If I make it 5000 is there a downside ?

Tips/pointers/RTFMs appreciated

Andy

There is no way to specify unllimited range currently. If your range increases and you have multiple replicant and nested replicants the performance will definitely go down and you would need to use the row-map-cache-file option

Looking for ideas / solutions - preferably using DataDeploy (as it's already in-house and there's some vested effort in it already)

row-map-cache-file is still there... check the OpenDeploy DTD reference manual. It is described in detail.

(The docs need updating.. I filed a bug some time back specific to row-map-cache to move the description to the main DD admin doc.)

Also, there is still no way to handle unbounded replicants... dd uses those replicant bounds to generate the row map.

Thanks for the pointer - I still have a few questions though:

So I will have to create this file (utilizing iwsyncdb) using something like: iwsyncdb -rowmapgen configfile deployment outfile where configfile would be my existing DD config file, deployment would be a specific deployment definiition within that config, and outfile would be where I want the output file to go - yes?
So - I have to make my config reference a file that doesn't exist and then run a command to create that file so that when the actual deployment is run the file will exist - right?

Question - how do I define "unbounded" for a replicant in my config file so that the map is generated correctly? Or do I just choose some [suitably] large number to use for the range and assume [hope] I never come across a DCR which uses more than that number of replicant instances?

Once you've answered that, the next request (since I have your attention ;-) is if you have any ideas about this thread

Thanks much

Okay - I guess that answers my previous last question - so now it's just a matter of understanding how to get the row/column layout I want (in other thread)

yes ... to the question about referring to a file that doesn't exist... ie.. that's the name of the file where dd will dump the row map info.

You'll have to use some large number (sorry).. out of curiousity, can you actually specify 'unbounded' in a datacapture file?

Is there a customer... I can at least open a feature request as it appears this has been asked at least one other time. But given the DD internals and reliance on the enumeration of rows in the row map, I'm not so sure how feasible this is to implement.
