Delete without Deploying Files

Hi

COnsider the following scenario

There are two servers ( host_Server ) which has TS 5.5 and OD installed and (reciver_host) which has just OD reciver server.

Files that are generated or created in host_Server are deployed to reciver_host thru normal OD processess.Only those files which have been generated in the host_Server and submited for approval and approved alone will be deployed No other files will be deplyoyed ( File list deployement thru workflow alone ) I other words we cannot do a direct directory comaparision.

Now when the user deletes a file in host_Server this also needs to be deleted in reciver server.

That is No new files from host_Server must be deployed to reciver_host server. where as the files that were deleted in host_Server must also be deleted in reciver_host.

I wrote an config XML script which does a filelist deployemtn ( with do delete option = true )
The file list will not contain any files ( or invalid files or just the homepage home.html ) So that new files are not deployed but files that were delted in host_Server were deleted in reciver_host.

for some reasons the above logic is not working Smiley Sad

ANy clues how to proceed ?

In order for this to work, the filelist must contain the relative paths to the files that no longer exist on the source side so that OD will delete them on the target side. It sounds like you're providing an empty filelist - in which case, OD believes it has nothing to do.

WHat I did was something like this .

I had created a dummy html page (dummy.html) which will exist on the TS server. Now I simply open and close this dummy page before OD is invoked so that the time stamp changes .

Since the date or timestamp differs OD will try to deploy the files right ?

One dummy page will be deployed and the files will be deleted in target server.

When you use File list deployment . It will deploy or delete the file(s) on targetside if the filename exists in the filelist (text file). If you want to delete a file called ****.html in the target side , first delete in the WA and go and list the List modified files in TS . Select the deleted files red X mark (In this case ****.html) and start you workflow (Same procedure how you are deploying the files).

One of us is misunderstanding the other.
I was on the assumption that you wanted something like this:

If that's the case, then the filelist for both deployments should look the same:

    /foo1.html
    /foo2.html
    /foo3.html

and the only difference is that when you run the deployment the first time, those files actually exist on the source side, when you run the last deployment, those files must not exist on the source side - in that way, OpenDeploy will deploy the deletions.
Does that make sense?
Is this what you were talking about?
If not - please provide a much more detailed description of your environment and what you are trying to accomplish.

We need to deploy only those files that are deployed , this hold good for pages that are deleted also. The deleted pages must also be approved.
Lets say when the user creates a few pages which are not approved yet. and he deletes a page which is approved, in this case the deleted file ( approved ) must also be deleted from remote server, and the pages that have been created should not be deployed

I believe we're on the same page here now. The deleted files are deleted only in the workarea until approved and then the deletions are submitted to the staging area and deployed - correct?
If the workflow is doing filelist deployments, the deleted files should still be associated with the job, so you should be able to take all files associated with the job at that point and stick it into a filelist for the deployment and the files that are still present on the source side will be deployed as content, and the files which no longer exist on the source side will be deployed as deletions.

Or am I still missing some nuance of this problem you're trying to deal with?

I had a similiar issue where in the deployment descriptor I had to create a seperate one which I run via a OD deployment
where in essence I change the area to main/thearea/STAGING

Let me know if this makes sense
