Hi
My tpl contains something like
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<iw_perl>
<![CDATA[
my $headline = "test";
..... End of TPL
Now when i make the following change my $headline = "désolés ";
my tpl throws and error like
XML parse error:
not well-formed (invalid token) at line 31, column 17, byte 836 at /export/local/Teamsite5.0.1/iw-home/iw-perl/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005/sun4-solaris/XML/Parser.pm line 185
:/default/main/Editorial/....../presentation/Article.tpl
Any idea how to over come this issue ?

Did you try using the HTML entities for the special characters? Can't remember if you have to escape the & (because the entities may be invalid in an XML TPL).

when I type
$str= désolés in VI editor it converts it automatically to something like $str= d\303\251sol\303\251s
whats happeing here ? How do i do the same in the tpl .
The tpl contains something like $str= désolés i need to convert it into hexadecimal or whatever form .
Do i use the unpack/pack function or anything else ?

Try to use ISO-8859-1 instead of UTF-8 for encoding.

Check the locale settings.
$ locale
it should be either UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1, but since you want UTF-8 support, there is a en_US.UTF-8.
Do not worry about the "en_US" part, accented characters will work.
