marking all files as modified

hi,

i am looking for a way to mark all files from a certain directory down on the Y drive as modfied. Looking at http://devnet.interwoven.com/forums/cgi-bin/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=perl&Number=27948&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&part= has given me lots of ideas on how to do the directory find, but i am unsure on a command to mark all files as modified.

I doubt there is a similar command as touch on a base install of NT but is there anythign i have missed in the way of a clt or is there a perl command i can make use of.

My guess is that you could use someting like the Windows Explorer mechanism for modifying permission rights and applying the changes to all sub-directories and files to get the kind of effect you want, alternatively you could use something like File::Copy and the built in functions rename() and unlink() to iterate through each file, copy the file to a temporary filename, rename it back into place, and then remove the temporary copy.

Out of curiosity - *why* do you want to do this?

Well the problem is that we have found that a certain important folder that contains code is available to all under full control. Usint NT explorer to change the ACL's does not work as really the Y:drive doesnt exist (its something of teamsites imagination) therefore even as an admin on the local box you cannot set the permissions (or we cant) on it from full control to read. It seems that teamsite always keeps a special lock on the file.

Therefore we have to modify the submit.cfg to put a clause in it to say anything in this folder downwards take the read permissison. However there are lots of code files in there and i dont fancy opening every single one of them to make a change so i can submit it so it takes the submit.cfg settings.

Can i just clarify that submit direct will still only submit and overwrite if there is a change in the files. IF there isnt it will still not update the staging area.

I believe that is correct - that submit direct will only submit (and therefore trigger the use of the submit.cfg) files that are modified in some way, shape, or form, from the version that is currently in staging.

Here's an idea: Use the Edit > Download functionality for launch pad - Select all the files and download them, then select all the files in Launch Pad (View > List Local Files) and Upload them - then do your mass submit. I do not believe this will effectively "touch" the files.

A small nit-pick:

I think that you know the truth, but I think that you have slightly mis-phrased it. Rather than "from the version that is currently in staging", I think it is "from the version that was last brought into your workarea via Get Latest or copy-to-area".

If its not too late, the utime function in Perl does what a touch does. It works on Win2k, I tested it.
