Front Office 5.6 and templated content

Hi

I installed TS 6L and TFO 5.6 to play a little bit and see what could be achieved with both tools.
We have pretty complex pages (basically all the Key Figures pages with big table), and the DCR just use big visual format field to put direct HTML inside ... not really clean I know Smiley Happy

My idea was to offer the possibility to "really non technical" user to modify HTML pages using Word (yok !) through TFO Briefcase. It works great, HTML seems pretty correct, but the big point is that the corresponding DCR is not modified !

I saw in previous posts that the possibility to edit templated content was removed from TFO. Was it doing what I need ? If no, do you have a solution to link modifications in HTML and DCR ?

Yes, this functionality was removed.. I don't really know for good or for worse... We had a requirement to do templating from word yesterday...

unfortunately, when your users modify the target HTML, the DCR will not be affected, as it's DCR that holds the primary information, not the target HTML file.

I am afraid there is no way for your users to use TFO for this purpose...

I wonder if you could have the TPL insert some HTML comments that allow the "DCR" data to be parsed back out (maybe some kind of trigger) and stored back to the DCR (maybe if the DCT is really simple), or if Word would strip those comments anyway. Well, probably not a good idea anyway.

I would not rely on Word at all, given the rubbish they put in their HTML Smiley Happy

I could think of the process of saving the document into RTF and then processing it back to DCR - but then this defeats the purpose of templating, doesn't it?

the only thing I would probably want to suggest to re-organise the DCR, putting a link to a HTML (edited by word) file instead of VF field. Then the word file could be safely edited separately and inserted by a presentation template.

I did that once, can provide code if anyone is interested, but I agree using Word for web content is a bad idea.
