od reporting stops

I've got od using mssqlserver for reporting, hoever I've noticed reporting stops on occasion when the connection between od and mssql server is broken. Restarting the od service gets reconnects od to sql server. Whether it's a network issue or not what techniques are all of you using to keep reporting up as much as possible?
