"Bookmarking" in TeamSite 6.x
System
One of my biggest complaints about WebDeskPro is that I can't bookmark an area - I have to navigate through these ridiculously long paths (especially where templatedata is concerned, even worse when DCRs are in a folder structure matching output file directory structure). The result is that I usually keep several browsers open to the different areas and alt-tab between them, but even this is a hassle. I know Webdesk had some kind of bookmarking functionality but frankly Webdesk never worked for me or many of my users. Does 6.x have bookmarks that can take me to individual areas and subfolders? Are there CCI links that can take users to specific areas and folders?

TS6 has a "My Favorites" (a.k.a. bookmark) functionality - in CCS and I believe also in CCP (though I don't recall right now as I'm not looking at the UI at this time). It lets you save references to directories and/or individual files.

yes, CCP also has them, however you would need to see them via menu, whence in CCS they are in a separate portlet

I remember marketing saying that anything you could click in TeamSite could be used as a CCI link, but marketing has a little different understanding than engineering. Do you know if it's possible to CCI link to directories and areas?

Yes you can link to areas and directories within areas (just tried it) - I believe you can link to files too, however that viewing files doesn't seem to be working for me in my TS6 environment right now (but I don't spend a lot of time there, so it's probably a proxy or IIS thing)

Yes, you can select a workarea (in the right frame inside the Content tab in CC Professional) and View > Add to Favorites.

for a cci url to use browser bookmarks to bookmark a directory (or anything in a path in ccpro), you can use /iw-cc/viewdirectory?vpath=/bla/bla/bla. you can pass a vpath to any kind of node (file, area, branch, store, whatever) to viewdirectory (sorry for the inconsistent naming).
you should be able to use your browsers bookmarks to capture the url. subsequent navigation will however not be captured, as the url will still be referring to /bla/bla/bla.
in general, i would recommend using the bookmarking facilities built into ccpro and ccstd. and i wouldn't be using webdeskpro when ccpro is so much prettier.

there is also a shortcut button to My Favorites on the UI. Its the folder with a star on it next to the Go Bar.

I noticed that the "Submit" button is disabled when viewing Favorites in CCP. Can this be modified so that users can goto their bookmarks and Submit directories/files ?
Thanks in advance,

submit isn't enabled in my favorites for a number of reasons:
- anything can be a favorite (files, branches, areas)
- you can favorite files in any area (editions, staging, workareas)
- you can have favorites in multiple workareas
so basically, what you can end up doing from favorites, is select multiple files, in multiple areas and do a submit. because favorites does not have sufficient context, it would be impossible for the ui to know what common area all the files selected share. basically, this is an error handling nightmare, and the behavior would be very poorly defined. a concrete example is that i select f1 (in workarea w1) and f2 (in workarea w2) where w1 and w2 are in different branches. not quite sure what the ideal behavior in this case would be, but it's probably something like starting two seperate submit tasks... which is weird...
best suggestion i can give is to click on the directory in the favorites link (which will switch you into the context of an area), and do your submit from there.

Thanks for the detailed response, and what you explained makes sense. SInce submits cannot happen from Favorites, and the Submit button is disabled, our UAT users were confused a bit. Eventually they did what you suggest (clicking on the file link and submitting from there). Can we hide the submit button, for the Favorites page only? If not, is there a way to put a message there saying submits are not possible.
Thanks again,
Mukesh
