Repost: Performance issues with IE6
swissben
Hello,
just reposting because we didn't see any answers.
We are seeing a big fall in performance when working with Internet Explorer 6 to the point where it cannot even be used. Netscape or Opera works 5 to 6 times faster.
Since IE is deployed on all our clients it's not possible to consider deploying Netscape just for this.
I've seen that many people have experienced the same issue about a year ago.
Has anybody found a workaround?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Tony

I am not sure TS 6 will work for anything, but IE. Maybe, they are changing it for 6.1?
I have not noticed any degradation in performance, though...

need some information as to where you are seeing the performance degradation. in particular, what version of teamsite are you running, and which UI are you hitting (webdesk/ccpro/ccstd/webdeskpro), and what operations are you doing (list directory, task list...).
in general, IE6 should have quite good performance with the TS UIs.
there were various client side performance improvements put into 6.1, including a particularly tragic performance problem when doing a select all from a list (which i believe was equally noticable in mozilla and in IE).

Just a thought for you to check out - we had big performance issues with Teamsite using IE6 (never tried Netscape) against a Win2000 server..found out we were suffering from "token bloat" - user id had so many groups it belonged to that it slowed performance (for that user) down. Resolved by creating a second user id, with just bare minimum of groups.

ah! so it was not browser related. good to know. in the future, please post TS version with these posts. it will be easier to give you specific solution/follow up questions.
and note, if you haven't tried netscape (or any other browser), it's misleading to say "performance issue with IE6", because i interpret that as being "performance issue with IE6 in particular, netscape works fine", whereas in this case where you are describing a performance problem in the server, to which browser and browser version are irrelevant.

Hi there,
We are facing the same problem. Our templates open 10 times faster in Netscape 7.1 than in IE 6. Apparently the problem is that Internet Explorer takes longer time in long string concatenation.

We don't see any serious effort made to resolve this problem, both from Interwoven & Microsoft. We have two options now.
1. Continue with the bad performance
2. Deploy Netscape 7.1 to our publisher community.
We will be going with option 2.

are you running TS6? templating performance is greatly improved in TS6 over previous versions...
have you forwarded the templates to interwoven support? we need more customer samples to test against, and seems like you've found somewhere where we could optimize.
