iwmigrate and multistore

Hi everybody,

we are about to migrate the repository from one server (WinNT4, TS 5.5.2) to another machine (Win2k, TS 5.5.2 SP5). Both servers are in the same domain and I tried to use iwmigrate as described in this paper.

Unfortunately I had no success. The iwmigrate command shows the following error:

I checked with iwlist that there are EDITIONs in that branch and the mounting of the target server iw-store directory also seems to be ok.

Question: Does iwmigrate REQUIRE a multistore license?

We do not plan to run on multiple stores, we are only moving to a newer machine. Once the migration is complete, the old server will be recycled.

C:\iw-home\TeamSite\bin>iwmigrate -m y:\default -o i:\default -b /default/main/de/rosiplus/development

The new store is mounted on i:\ via a normal Windows share.
The branch exists and has EDITIONs (checked with iwlist).

I also tried different combinations for the -m, -o and -b parameters, omitting the 'default' or replacing backslashes with slashes. I also temporarily created a new store on the target server, shared and mounted that one, but this also showed no result.

My main question is, whether iwmigrate REQUIRES a multi-store licens. Can someone from Interwoven please clarify?

No, iwmigrate does not need a multi store license. Only when you attemp to activate the store will you need a multi-store license. The problem I think is with your -b option. You mentioned that you are running teamsite on two machines and are attempting to migrate a branch from one machine (src_machine) to another machine (dst_machine). In such a case if you are running iwmigrate on the dst_machine then the -b option should be -b //src_machine/default/main......

I was running iwmigrate from the source machine, but if it is possible the other way round, I will simply try it from the target machine too.

I had no luck 'pulling' from the target machine.

Did someone successfully migrate a single branch from one server to the other as described in the paper mentioned above?

When starting the iwmigrate tool, I suggests retrieving the latest version from the support website. Since there is none on the website, I copied the binary from the fresh installation. It has a later build number. Obviously this does not work. I copied the older build back and *voila* it started migrating the branch.

Hi,

We have been successfully able to migrate induvidual branches from one machine to another on Solaris.
This might give you an idea of how to go about doing it in Windows.

§ Mount source iw-server and iw-store onto the target as
/mnt/src-iwserver
/mnt/src-iwstore
§ Start conversion
iwconvert -g -m /mnt/src-iwserver -o /iw-store/test -b //TARGET/default/main/docs -n /mnt/iw-store/default
§ Start Target TeamSite
§ Activate the new store
iwstoreadm -a test
