TeamSite and Backups

Question:
1. Does any company have more then 1 Million files in the Backing Stor/Repository?
2. Are you able to backup the repository? If so what technology and how?
Issue: Number of files in Backing Stor causing problems with Backup process
Backups are failing due to the number of files residing in the BackingStor rather then the actual size. The backup process is a Net Application NAS and IBM Tivoli solution. The NAS part seems to be working as expected, but Tivoli is taking 36 hours to complete. The NAS has been explained to me that it points to back to the disk volume for any of the unchanged files (providing speed to completion). Since the files are being used they are locked, which means they are not included in the backup.
Here are the details:
TeamSite 5.5.2 SP5
Windows 2000
Net Apps NAS
IBM Tivoli
Fiber connection
TeamSite Server #1
BackingStor Size 10.9 GB
BackingStor Disk Size 14.5 GB

Number of Folders 15,856

BackingStor Size 7.88G
BackingStor Disk Size 10.1
Number of Files in BackingStor (repository) 1,050,006
Number of Folders 12,925
