deploy to "linked" destination fails

Hi,

we have a problem with deploying to destination created as symbolic link. We use OD5.6 SP 1 on AIX. This is the listing of target directory:

/webdocs/: ls
6 Nov 18 14:33 nmsat -> nmsat1
512 Mar 23 14:16 nmsat1

This is the log file

id=0 server: Destination directory [/webdocs/nmsat]
id=0 server: Destination directory = [/webdocs/nmsat] is a Link
id=0 server: Invalid allowed directory = [nmsat1]
ERROR: prepare-failed.
ERROR: Failed deploying local_directory[0] (/webdocs/nms_preview) to (/webdocs/nmsat)
ERROR: Failed 1 of 1 local_directories

We think that we had not this problem on previous version of OD (5.5.1). Any help ?

Try adding nmsat1 as an allowedDirectory on the Receiver.

Symbolic links create a bunch of problems in deployment situations:
- Do you replace the symbolic link with an actual file or directory?
- Do you follow the symbolic link and replace what it is pointing to with an actual file or directory?
- If there is more than one level of links do you traverse through all of them?
- How do you determine if you are in an endless symbolic link loop and gracefully exit?
- How do you evaluate the ability to deploy to a file or directory that is outside the designated area for receiving deployments?
(and that's only with regard to the target side of things, it gets even messier when you start looking at symbolic links on the source side and in combination of both source and target sides)

In your case, it looks as-if:
(a) nmsat is a specified allowed directory
(b) nmsat1 is not a specified allowed directory
(c) the server is doing a full evaluation of the target path to determine that the target directory is, in fact, nmsat1 and not the symbolic link nmsat -- which IMO is correct behavior
