Child window access to FormApi

I want to open a window with FormAPI and have the user make a selection that runs a function in FormAPI and/or setvalue an item. Is there a way to communicate from a child window to parent?

Should I be able to use "parent.getScriptFrame()" like callserver CGI? I have a callserver CGI working in an other application.

I haven't tested anything but I would think you can play around with the javascript window methods to find it.

along the lines of

window.opener

maybe
opener.top.getScriptFrame might work
