eMail just stopped going out

Does anyone out there in INterwoven land have a suggestion? eMail messages from workflows have just, all of a sudden stopped being sent. One minute they were working and the next nothing... No changes to the server or the scripts. The workflows all complete and advance as expected just no email gets sent. Are there logs I could/should be looking at?

what OS ? What rev of TS ? Are you using the IW standard mailer or a home grown ?

If you are on unix, open a shell and send yourself email:

Assuming that you are using one of the OOTB mail scripts - or a modified copy thereof - that uses the entries in the iw.cfg file to determine the mailserver to communicate with .... Look in your iw.cfg (by default: IWHOME/etc/iw.cfg on Windows and just /etc/iw.cfg on Unix) and find the section with the [iwsend_mail] heading - under there you should see something like:
mailserver=mail.company.com
Now go to a command prompt or shell and try to connect to that server's SMTP port:
telnet mail.company.com 25
You should see something like this (there's a lot of room for variance here - you're responsible for the bold portion):

Trying 120.94.76.58...
Connected to mail.company.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220-mail.company.com ESMTP Exim 3.33 #1 Thu, 01 Apr 2004 11:52:04 -0500
220-NO UCE.  ... does not authorize the use of its computers or network
220 equipment to deliver, accept, transmit, or distribute unsolicited e-mail.
QUIT
221 mail.company.com closing connection
Connection closed by foreign host.

If you don't see something like that - especially if you get a problem connecting to the server - then that's the source of your problem and you should talk to your IT folks - they may have changed the mail server, it's IP address, or applied restrictions such that your TS server is no longer able to communicate with it or something like that.

I agree. In my experience mail servers go up and down more often than the stock market.

Hi,

I'm having a very similar problem. I just tried what fish suggested and can connect to the email server with no problems. It seems that mail is only not send when using workflow. I have an external command with the following:

<command v='/opt/interwoven/iw-home/bin/iwsend_mail.ipl -t "approver" -m "Content has been created for your approval. Please login to Teamsite with username approver and review the content."'/>

approver is a user in teamsite and I've tried changing it to my user id. If I run the command from the command line (it's unix) it works, although it takes a very long time (5 mins) to send. On our development server everything works great!

Any ideas anyone?

I'd say get your IT/Ops folks involved and see if they can figure out what's happening by monitoring the mail queues, network traffic, etc.

I think this is the kind of thing you have to "be there" to really help figure out what's going on (and even then it might take some time)
