using common file directories
haystacks
question about using common files such as images, content, form logic, etc. and deployment...
using a directory structure like:
/site/common/
/site/site1/
/site/site2/
/site/site3/
and using relative paths (or any paths, even symbolic links) i'd like to be able for the various sites (1,2,3) to be able to reference the files in the common direcory, esp. includes.
the issue is that when deploying, since everything is it's own separate branch, i'd like any changes to the common files be propogated to the individual sites as well, meaning that a change to a common include would be shared and current for all sites. building out separate versions of the same file into each branch would be a maintenence nightmare.
many thank yous in advance!

While in TeamSite - you'll want to use iwproxy settings (iw.cfg - read the TeamSite Administrator's Guide)
For deployments - how easy it is depends on how segmented your target structure is.
If the common files go into directories that do *not* get any files from the site branches - it's trivial.
If the common files go into directories that also get files from the site branches you either have to not use doDeletes *or* you have to use a lot of filters with doDeletes to avoid having deployments from a site branch delete the common files and vice-versa.
To deploy from one source to three targets can be done a number of different ways - I suggest you spend some time looking at the deployment configuration file DTD - then if you have trouble getting your deployment to work, then post it, along with logs and someone will probably be able to assist you.
