6.5 Enable Search
artor
Hi,
During the installation of Interwoven Search with TS 6.5, installer asks
Enable Search and Enable Index then afterward in step 10 and step 11 based on your selection in step 9, it asks Shared File System Location and I am confused what to put in Shared File System Location is any arbitrary directory which you pointing for Shared FSLocation or any specific directory contain branch such as iwmnt.
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
Regards,

The Shared FileSystem Location is the physical location on a drive where you plan to store your indices for Search. This location must be accessible by both the Index and Search Servers. This is not the TeamSite mount point nor is it a branch in your TeamSite repository. This is analagous to the specifying the location of your backing store for the TeamSite server.

thanx, so in this case i can seperately assign two directory one for search and one for index or assign a single directory to both of them.

You have to use the same directory. This directory is the location where your indices (verity collections) are stored during indexing and this is also the location where the search server queries the indices for information based on the query. They have to be one and the same.

Thanks Sunil to make this clear but I already assign different directory and I will see in the documents to make it one.

Sunil - please file a doc bug on this - the manual is VERY UNCLEAR about what this location is. I'd also suggest filing an engineering bug on the installer both in terms of having *it* provide better assistance in describing what this value should be - perhaps actually having a default value - and having it be able to create the directory if it doesn't already exist (perhaps with a prompt to do so).

Is the directory were indices for Search can be configure after installing TeamSite Search.

Yes you should be able to modify this in search.properties located in <search-home>/etc on the search server.
Look for
# Collections directory for index agents
iw.index.agent.idxdir=
Set this to be the shared directory between search and index servers.. If you are using the local filesystem to store all your indices it could be something like
iw.index.agent.idxdir=C:/TSIndex
Remember that if you install search and index server on the same machine, the following value must also match the above
# Collections directory for search agents
iw.search.agent.idxdir=C:/TSIndex
The reason why this shared location is asked both during the index server configuration and the search server configuration is because techinically you could choose to install the index server and the search server on different machines. In that scenario, you might want to use a shared drive that is accessible to both the servers. That shared drive must be one physical drive but could be mapped as different drives on the two servers. Hopefully that did not confuse you.
