Change the metadata value thru properties of a job
infoForDj
Hi,
Lets say, launchDate is an extended attribute of a DCR. How can I change its value from within the workflow through the properties of the job.
Thanks,
Dhruv

You could use an externaltask or cgitask that runs the iwextattr CLT - or you could use the eastartop / eafinishop attributes for any task to set, append, or delete an EA on *all* files attached to the task.
If you don't mind setting the EA on all files associated with the task **and** the value is one you can determine programmatically *before* the job is instantiated - the eastartop/eafinishop attributes are probably the easy way to do this.
If you do care about setting the EA on only specific files associated with the task **or** the value is one that you can only determine *after* the job is instantiated (e.g. the value is derived from some content the user filled in the DCR, or you need the timestamp set at the time the actual task becomes active) - then you'll need to use an externaltask or cgitask script to run iwextattr.

A warning on this:
If you're running on Windows, then setting the EA from an external task will result in the "last modified by" attribute of the file showing as SYSTEM, regardless of which user "owns" the external task. (This is not true under the various flavors of Unix - it's a limitation of the Windows authentication mechanism).
Cgitasks don't share this limitation. I don't know if the same is true with using eastartop and eafinishop, although I suspect that the problem will manifest there.

Hi Dhruv,
We use an external task to firstly set default Extended attributes, e.g takes the title from the dcr , sets the create date
We then have a cgi task for the author to add for example to revies period,
Then we invoke another external task that creates the valid to date based on the review period and the create date.
All using iwextattr as mentioned by fish.
