How to transfer value of variable in HTML dropdown

infoForDj

Hi,

In a CGI Script, I need to populate a dropdown with the values stored in a perl variable. How can I do this?

Thanks,
Dhruv

It's hard to know what you want to do without more explanation on your part -- is this in a DCT? What version of TS? What OS and version, etc., etc.?

Also - what kind of Perl variable? (scalar with a separating charcter for different values, list in which the same value is used for both the display and value portions of the select list, hash in which the key is used as the value and the value is used as the label for the select list, some home-grown blessed object, ?)

By and large - what's being asked for is trivial perl code - however, without knowing more details about the specific implementation and getting some understanding of what level of perl competency you have to begin with - it's really difficult to provide "an answer".

Hi,

It is a CGI script called by a CGI task from within a workflow. I want to populate the html dropdown with vlues stored in a perl variable which is an array.

ok,

once you have not provided any details, here is just a *sample* of how to build a select list.

    foreach my $hash (@arySelectValues)
    {
    my $value = $hash->{'value'};
    my $label = $hash->{'label'};
    if ($label eq '')
    {
        $label = $value;
    }
    print "<OPTION VALUE=\"$value\">$label</OPTION>\n";

here I kept the details in a structure that is a bit more complex than a simple array.

Since you've now indicated that the variable in question is an array - and I will assume that you are using the same value for the 'value' and 'label' parts of the select list - then something along the lines of what Greg posted, but for an array, would be:
print qq(<select size="1">\n);
print qq(<option value="$_">$_</option>\n) foreach(@array);
print qq(</select>\n);
