running a script from javascript in cgi

I have made a UI using cgi script. Now based on the input from the user I want to run a perl script. Will I have to call server to run this script?If yes, How can I call it? Also, is there any other way in which I can avoid calling server i.e. can I include this script in the same cgi script and run it when required?

Product, version, platform, how you're running this CGI, what you're trying to do in the CGI, etc.
