Jeff Bonifacci Rules!

System

If you haven't tried Jeff's cgiCommandLine.cgi (available in the devnet code library), you should run get it. I probably wouldn't ever run it on a production server because it is probably a substantial security risk, but for the dev server it's great. No more worrying about running out of RDP sessions or having to turn on the telnet service.

Thanks for such a great contribution to the community, Jeff!

Here's a link to that article in the library:

I agree the Bonifacci rules. (I have worked with him) FYI -- Do not run iwreset from this script. Very Bad.. Not sure if Jeff made sure you could not run it but it might make a nice addition.

Let me guess, the reset kills the process halfway through and then the services don't restart?

brandon1

You are correct. In one case had to reboot the machine(Mind you it was windows) many a time to get any TS services to function.

Hey Rob, I appreciate the positive feedback, glad you found my code useful,

. Btw, there's only one c in Bonifaci, Smiley Wink

Sorry for perpetuating that.

Hey - I just found something that might be considered a bug. Is there any way to trap the backspace with the javascript so it will either do the expected thing, or at least not pass it to IE (which uses backspace to navigate to the previous page)?

Sorry about the extra c. I have the opposite problem with my name - folks insist on leaving out either the d or the second t. Perhaps I should go ahead and spell my name as a regex that encompasses the various common misspellings

H[ou]f{1,2}st[ea][dt]t?l?er

what do you think?

Hey Rob,

I wouldn't consider it a bug...

. But since you asked, I did a quick update and backspace is now disabled if a text field/area doesn't have focus. The updated code is attached.

As far as the last name goes, you should definitely get that on your business cards, Smiley Wink

So what has this been tested on ? I assume Windows IIS, anyone try Solaris/Apache ?
(does sound very cool)

It will only run on Windows currently. But I am sure if someone asks, Jeff will make it run on not only Solaris but on TI calculators as well.

Jeff can you make it so?

I will volunteer to test it on Solaris.

There would be some slight modifications needed to get it to work on solaris and I haven't had access to a solaris box since I wrote this, so it won't currently work on solaris. Ideally it would check for os and make the necessary adjustments.

If I had access to a solaris box, I'd be willing to play around with it to get it to work in either environment.

I almost decided against submitting it to the knowledge base for this very reason, but decided to anyway. It definitely bugs me though,
